The original Jax Brewery building has an atrium that contains multiple columns. One of my biggest design issues will be working around these columns and producing a successful theater. Above are some pictures of the original floor plans of the 1st through 6th floors. Below are sections of the North and West sides of the building which are located on St. Peters and Decatur.

Research

This week I've been drawing the North and the West sections of the Jax Brewery and revising the floor plans of the 1st-3rd floors (I will post the drawings as soon as I'm done revising them). Once I started drawing the sections and being able to actually see the space that I'll be designing in, I noticed that my original proposal might change a bit. My teacher really wants me to focus on the theatre part of my project because that is the "meat" of my design and the part I am most interested in. So the other spaces of my proposal will only be designed if I have room and time for them.

Today I'm going to the library to find some theatre design books and some lighting design books since lighting will be my focus for this project. A book is required at the end of the semester with all of the research and information that we gather for our design. I've been playing around with some page layouts for my book and will soon start adding info to the pages I've gathered thus far. I plan on designing my book in InDesign but I've never used it before so I will be also looking for books to help me get started with that.
